Sometimes those situations bear fruit, but too often, when a company attempts to emulate another company, the results are disastrous.ย Cultures just donโt easily translate.
Four key elements should guide senior leaders as they invest in organizational culture change:
1.ย ย ย ย ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐๐๐น๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ.ย Identify both the best elements of your company culture to keep and understand what aspects are holding you back.
2.ย ย ย ย ๐๐ฒ๐ณ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐๐น๐.ย With an understanding of your current state, articulate the end state.ย This will shape the scope and scale of the culture change needed.
3.ย ย ย ย ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ฎ ๐๐น๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ ๐ฅ๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฝ.ย Your transformation roadmap will define the timeframe and required rate of change as well as the sequence of how to bring about the change.ย It answers what functions or departments might take a leading role as well as the order of organizational behavior changes you need to tackle.
4.ย ย ย ย ๐๐ผ๐น๐น๐ผ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒยญยญ ๐ฅ๐๐น๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ง๐ต๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฑ๐.ย From our experience, employees fall into one of three camps during a change effort.ย Roughly a third will be energized by the change and be your biggest champions.ย Find them and harness their energy.ย Another third will go along for the ride.ย They wonโt be out front leading, but they wonโt hold you back.ย The last third will be your resistors.ย Find them and either convert them or manage them out if they wonโt fit the future vision of your company.
Creating a culture of innovation will be challenging, but when done successfully can be transformative and impactful to the bottom line.
