7 Essentials of Innovation: Thomas Edison

“Invention” should not be confused with “innovation”. Far too often, we see companies just focused on generating new ideas, not getting the right initiatives into market to build business.

One of Thomas Edison’s most notable inventions, the incandescent lightbulb, was developed to respond to the need for light in households. He and his team selected parts, added other patented ideas, enhanced duration and ultimately, built a more practical, light bulb for home use. And, if that wasn’t enough, they then built an electric system to deliver the electricity that households needed for its use. It’s not just about ideas. It’s about getting them in market.
